As we age, we lose fat stores in various parts of the face. The fat that is lost from the temple and eyebrow area results in a hollowing at the temples and a drooping of the brow and skin above the eyes. Treatment with dermal filler opens up the eye restoring a youthful appearance.
How does it work?
Using FDA approved derma fillers made up of hyaluronic acid such a Juvederm Volift, Dr Anita Dhunna can sculpt the eyebrow area enabling the skin to lift beautifully. This in turn opens the eye up and gives structure and frame to the skin around the eye. Injecting Juvederm Voluma directly into the hollow of the temple creates volumisation which lifts the skin and eyebrow up around the eye and also lifts the higher part of a sunken cheek. This immediately restores a harmonious balance to this part of the face which in turn looks fresher, less tired and youthful.
Patients of a younger age may benefit from temple and/or eyebrow shaping with dermal filler if they have a natural hollowing of the temples or have very flat, horizontal, low placed eyebrows.
Am I suitable for temple and eyebrow shaping treatment?
The treatment is contraindicated in pregnant or breast feeding women. Women and men of all ages 18+ can have temple and eyebrow shaping treatment subject to your medical history and desired outcomes which would be discussed in depth at your face to face consultation with Dr Anita Dhunna.
What happens during the treatment?
After your face to face consultation with Dr Anita Dhunna, a bespoke treatment plan will be created for you. The area is then sterilised and cleaned before treatment. Depending on what result is trying to be achieved, either a needle or a cannula (small, flexible, blunt ended tube) will be used to introduce the dermal filler into the temple area. This will instantly lift the skin reversing the sunken, hollow, inwards appearance of the temple.
For the eyebrow, Dr Anita Dhunna will use a cannula to inject the dermal filler. The cannula allows for a gliding along the whole eyebrow area which allows Dr Dhunna to shape and sculpt this area with dermal filler carefully. The result is an instant lift to the skin above the eyes and a more defined eyebrow.
Does it hurt?
Using dermal fillers within the Juvederm range allows patients to feel more comfortable as they have local anaesthetic built into the dermal filler. This means, as it is injected the area begins to feel numb during the treatment. Using a cannula, the cutting feeling normally felt by using a needle is not experienced, so this makes the treatment a lot more comfortable for patients.
For very anxious or nervous patients, a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied before treatment.
When will I see the results?
The results are seen immediately after treatment. You may find the area treated looks better in 2-3 weeks time due to the hydration properties of the Juvederm filler.
Is it safe and what is the downtime?
As with all medical procedures, there can be complications which would be discussed in person at your consultation. However, when being treated by an experienced Doctor/Dentist, you are less likely to experience these.
As with all procedures, you may experience some slight swelling or bruising which could last a few days. Taking Arnica tablets a week before your treatment and using Arnica gel after treatment can help minimise bruising.
Avoiding alcohol 48 hours before will also help minimise bruising.
How long do the results last?
Juvederm Voluma can last up to 2 years and Juvderm Volift can last 15 months.
