Tear Trough Treatment

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. So when these eyes are constantly looking tired because there is a hollowing in the skin under the eye creating a shadow, this is where dermal filler is used to reverse the aged appearance.

How does it work?

As we age, our faces start to lose vital components such as bone mass, fat, collagen and elastin.

The under eye is no exception to the ageing process. We lose fat here and the eye socket area also becomes wider thereby causing the region under the eye to become hollow. The skin starts to develop dark circles adding to the sunken and hollow appearance which makes you look tired. Dr Anita Dhunna injects FDA approved dermal fillers like Juvederm Volift into the under eye area to lift and sculpt the skin back to its youthful appearance, reversing the signs of ageing and reversing the appearance of looking constantly tired.

Due to the complexity of the anatomy here, this area should only be treated by a highly skilled doctor or dentist with vast anatomical knowledge and experience in medical aesthetics.

Am I suitable for tear trough treatment?

The cause of dark circles may not be due to a hollowing of the skin under the eye but due to lifestyle choices such as smoking, lack of sleep and lack of hydration. Another cause of dark circles could be due to anaemia, this will need to be investigated by your GP.

These will all be discussed at your face to face consultation with Dr Anita Dhunna who would carry out an assessment to determine whether you can be treated.

The treatment is contraindicated in pregnant or breast feeding women. Women and men of all ages can have tear trough treatment subject to your medical history and desired outcomes which would be discussed in depth at your consultation with Dr Dhunna.

What happens during treatment?

The area under the eye is sterilised and a micro cannula is inserted. The cannula is glided along the tear trough area and small deposits of Juvederm Volift or Juvederm Volbella are injected along here. Due to the complexity of the anatomy in this region, it is safer to use a cannula than a needle. Dr Anita Dhunna may then use her finger to gently massage the area thereafter. The treatment normally takes about 10 minutes.

Does it hurt?

Dr Anita Dhunna uses FDA approved dermal fillers like Juvederm Volift and Juvederm Volbella which contain local anaesthestic within the filler, so as soon as it is injected the area begins to feel numb. Dr Dhunna also uses a cannula where you may feel a gliding under the skin but a cannula does not cut or pierce like a needle, so it is less likely to be painful.

Topical anaesthetic cream can be applied for patients who are very nervous or sensitive

When will I see the results?

The results are seen immediately however we would recommend a period of about 2 weeks to see the full results as this area can look better once the hyaluronic acid has integrated better within the skin.

Is it safe and what’s the downtime?

As with all medical procedures, there can be complications which would be discussed in person at your consultation. However, when being treated by an experienced Doctor/Dentist, you are less likely to experience these.

As with any dermal filler treatment, you can experience swelling and bruising. This may last up to a week. To minimise bruising, take Arnica a week before the treatment and using Arnica gel can help in this area after treatment.

Avoiding alcohol 48 hours before treatment can also help minimise your risk of bruising.

How long will the results last?

The results can last over a year In this area.
