Jawline/Chin Contouring

Treating the jawline and chin of a face with dermal fillers is a popular choice. A stronger jawline can minimise the appearance of jowls in an older person, contour and provide structure to a female face and can masculinise and strengthen the appearance in a male face.

How does it work?

Using approved dermal fillers such as Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Volux, Radiesse and Ellansé, Dr Anita Dhunna can sculpt the jawline and chin. These areas provide the bony scaffold to the face which is weakened by the ageing process; the bone along the jawline and chin can shrink. This results in the formation of jowls and loose skin around the lower part of the mouth. Injecting back the volume in these areas, the dermal filler mimics the bony framework of the jaw and the chin thereby tenting the skin back up to its original position which minimises the appearance of jowls and lifts the skin in the lower mouth region.

In a female patient who naturally has a rounder face and lacks structure, the dermal filler can be sculpted and shaped around the jawline and chin to provide an angled yet feminine contour to the lower face.

In men who lack a strong jawline, dermal filer such as Radiesse and Ellanse who’s qualities are more like the bony structure can be injected along here to provide a sharper, more defined jaw structure.

Am I suitable for jawline and chin contouring?

The treatment is contraindicated in pregnant or breast feeding women. Women and men of all ages 18+ can have cheek enhancement treatment subject to your medical history and desired outcomes which would be discussed in depth at your face to face consultation with Dr Anita Dhunna.

What happens during the treatment?

After you have seen Dr Anita Dhunna for a face to face consultation, a bespoke treatment plan will be made for you.

The area to be treated will be sterilised and cleaned. Dr Anita Dhunna will inject the chosen dermal filler for your desired outcome using both needles and a cannula (flexible blunted ended tube) to sculpt and shape your jawline and/or chin area. The result is a more balanced and lifted lower face which gives more shape and structure to your overall appearance. Patients with loose skin and jowls will notice these areas to be improved immediately following treatment.

Does it hurt?

Dermal fillers from the Juvederm range all contain local anaesthetic within the filler itself. So the area becomes numb on injecting. Using a cannula for treatment, also minimises the piercing and cutting one would feel with a needle so the procedure overall feels a lot more comfortable. Topical anaesthetic cream can be used before treatment if someone is very sensitive.

When will I see the results?

The results are seen immediately.

Is it safe and what’s the downtime?

As with all medical procedures, there can be complications which would be discussed in person at your consultation. However, when being treated by an experienced Doctor/Dentist, you are less likely to experience these.

You may experience some slight swelling or bruising that can last a couple of days. You can limit the bruising by taking Arnica before the treatment and applying Arnica gel after the treatment.

Avoiding alcohol 48 hours before the treatment will also reduce the risk of bruising.

How long do the results last?

The results can last up to 2 years
