There are some areas of the body that are very stubborn when it comes to getting rid of fat. Even the hardest gym goers find they still have love handles or some loose fat below the chin. Dr Anita Dhunna can treat these localised stubborn areas of fat with Deoxycholic Acid injections which dissolves the fat away leaving the area tighter and firmer.
How does it work?
Using Deoxycholic Acid products like Kybella, Celluform and Deso Face/Deso Body, Dr Anita Dhunna injects the solution into the localised stubborn area of fat. Deoxycholic Acid is a synthetic form of a similar substance in your body that helps absorb fat. When this solution is injected into the body, it destroys the fat cells resulting in a firmer appearance. The areas that can be treated include double chin, love handles, upper back fat, stomach, bingo wings, thighs, and knees.
Am I suitable for Fat Dissolving treatment?
The treatment is contraindicated in pregnant or breast feeding women. Women and men of all ages 18+ can have fat dissolving treatment subject to your medical history and desired outcomes which would be discussed in depth at your face to face consultation with Dr Anita Dhunna.
This treatment is only suitable for patients with stubborn areas of localised fat and is not suitable for patients who suffer from obesity or large volumes of fat.
What happens during the treatment?
After you have seen Dr Anita Dhunna for a face to face consultation, a bespoke treatment plan will be made for you.
The area to be treated will be sterilised and cleaned. Depending on the site and the size of the area, Dr Anita Dhunna will either use a needle or cannula (flexible blunted ended tube) to inject the fat dissolving agent into the area to be treated. If a larger area is treated e.g. love handles, Dr Dhunna will place strapping to secure the treated area.
Does it hurt?
The fat dissolving solution is carefully combined with local anaesthetic solution to make the injections more comfortable for you.
Topical anaesthetic can be applied for very sensitive patients.
When will I see the results?
Depending on the amount of fat present, you will require at least two treatments with 6 weeks in between. This will be discussed after your assessment at your consultation appointment.
Results are seen 6 weeks after the final treatment.
Is it safe and what’s the downtime?
As with all medical procedures, there can be complications which would be discussed in person at your consultation. However, when being treated by an experienced Doctor/Dentist, you are less likely to experience these.
You may experience some slight swelling or bruising that can last a couple of days. You can limit the bruising by taking Arnica tablets before the treatment and applying Arnica gel after the treatment.
Avoiding alcohol 48 hours before the treatment will also reduce the risk of bruising.
For larger areas like the back and love handles, you may experience some discomfort for a few days and will be required to wear support garments.
How long do the results last?
The treatment is not a weight loss treatment. If you gain weight due to lifestyle choices then you will also gain back the fat more readily in these areas. If you maintain a good exercise and diet regime, this will enable your results to last longer.
