Most non-surgical treatments work gradually. You have the treatment, then you wait for results to appear over days or weeks.
A PDO thread lift is different.
The lift happens during the treatment. You can see it immediately.
What a PDO thread lift does
PDO (polydioxanone) threads are fine, dissolvable sutures that have been used in surgery for decades. In aesthetic medicine, they’re used in a different way: inserted beneath the skin to physically reposition tissue that has sagged downwards, and to stimulate the production of new collagen in the area.
The dual effect is what makes thread lifts so effective. You get an immediate mechanical lift — visible straight away — and a longer-term improvement in skin quality and firmness as collagen builds over the following months. By the time the threads dissolve, typically after six months or so, your skin has laid down enough new collagen to maintain much of the improvement.
Where thread lifts work best
The most impactful areas are typically the mid-face and lower face. Cheeks that have started to drift downward. Jowls beginning to form along the jawline. A jawline that has lost its definition.
Thread lifts can also be used on the neck, the brow, and around the mouth — any area where skin laxity is creating a tired or heavier appearance.
They work best on patients who are starting to notice the early to mid signs of sagging, but who aren’t yet at the stage where surgery would be the first conversation. For many patients, that window is somewhere in their late thirties through to their fifties.
What treatment involves
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. Fine threads are placed beneath the skin using a cannula, then anchored and gently repositioned to create the lift. Treatment typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.
There’s some mild swelling and tenderness for the first few days. Most patients are comfortable returning to normal activities within a week. The initial result is visible immediately, and it continues to improve over the following three months as collagen production increases.
Thread lifts and other treatments
Thread lifts work well as a standalone procedure, but they’re also highly compatible with other treatments. Combining threads with Profhilo or wrinkle relaxing injections can produce results that address both structural sagging and skin quality — a more complete rejuvenation than either treatment achieves alone.
The honest answer on longevity
Results from a PDO thread lift typically last between 12 and 18 months. That varies depending on the individual, the areas treated, and how well the collagen stimulation takes hold.
It isn’t a permanent solution. But for patients who want to delay surgery, or who want a natural lift that doesn’t alter the fundamental character of their face, it delivers results that are difficult to achieve any other way.
A treatment that requires real skill
Thread lifting demands a detailed understanding of facial anatomy and a practitioner who places threads precisely and safely. Dr Anita Dhunna has been performing thread lifts for many years and brings the same level of care and precision to this treatment as to everything else she offers.
