New year new lips

new year new lipsIt’s been another tough year for many of us and sometimes it seems, we just don’t know when things will get back to normal. Most of us are looking to 2022 however, with hope that things will be brighter and better. So it’s no wonder that lots of us start to think about how we can improve our appearance and feel more confident, as the new year approaches. As we age, the lips can start to let us down; becoming thinner, with more lines, or even more asymmetrical than they perhaps once were. Injectable, dermal fillers are a hugely popular treatment for the augmentation and hydration of the lip area, and can completely change the way you look and feel, or offer subtle enhancement to your lips, to bring them back to life. Dr Anita Dhunna is one of the UK’s leading experts on cosmetic facial treatments using injectable products and lip fillers are certainly one of her fortes, having trained with some of the world’s leading ‘masters of the needle’. From her many clinics in Essex, Hertfordshire and London, Dr Anita Dhunna can help you to feel more confident and stand out, with a sexy, natural-looking pout.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are an effective and safe way to enhance and reshape many areas of the face and even areas such as the hands, as well as adding volume and hydration to the skin tissues. They are made up of a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) which is found naturally within our body and is responsible for cushioning and lubricating areas, such as the eyes, connective tissues, joints and of course, the skin. As we age, HA is depleted and our lips can become thinner and lose their fullness and this can have a dramatic effect on our overall facial appearance.

There are many dermal fillers on the market (some 150 brands in the UK alone) but it’s important to know that your practitioner is only using the very best, safest and regulated fillers on the market. Dr Anita Dhunna uses a range of Allergan fillers. These are FDA approved and famed for their efficacy and safety records. Quite rightly, Allergan will only sell to medical practitioners, as in the wrong hands, dermal fillers can cause drastic problems, something that we are seeing more and more with non-medical practitioners. So, it’s vital that you choose someone with a medical degree, such as Dr Anita Dhunna, to administer your lip fillers.

Am I suitable for lip fillers?

Most people can undergo a treatment with dermal fillers and will see huge benefits. However, before a lip filler treatment can go ahead with Dr Anita Dhunna, we ask that you attend a pre-treatment consultation so that she can assess your individual needs and requirements and examine your lips. She will also check your medical history and discuss your goals and expected results, so that she can really get to know you and what is bothering you about your lips. With all this information, she can effectively solve your facial worries. It’s at this point that we can also assess which technique and which dermal filler product would be best for you.

What happens during a dermal filler lip treatment with Dr Anita Dhunna?

The treatment itself, when administered by a medic is very straightforward. Some topical anaesthetic will be applied to the lip area prior to your treatment, so that you are fully comfortable and can relax. Most HA dermal fillers for the lip area however, now contain an anaesthetic so depending on your sensitivity, a topical cream may not be necessary. Depending on the treatment plan the doctor has devised, she will either use a cannula (a blunt-ended needle, especially designed to glide through the skin and blood vessels, thus reducing any potential bruising) or a traditional needle to inject a small amount of the HA filler in to specific areas of your lips. Dr Anita Dhunna may decide to fill the outer line of the lip (the vermillion boarder) or focus more on adding volume to the body of the lips, depending on your desires for results. She may even choose a combination of both. Whichever method she chooses, you can be confident that this will be the right technique for your requirements. Everyone has different shaped lips and its vital that your lip filler treatment is as unique as you are.

When will I see the results from my lip filler treatment?

You’ll be able to admire your results with dermal fillers for the lips straight away, as the gel-like substance physically augments the skin tissues and plumps out lines and wrinkles. However, it’s important to consider that there will probably be some swelling and potential bruising, post treatment for a few days. Optimum results can usually be seen around a week after your lip filler treatment. Any bruising that occurs can be treated with arnica gel, ice and avoiding hot saunas, steam rooms and hot baths for a few days, following your filler treatment.

How long do results last from a dermal filler lip treatment?

This all depends on your individual response to the treatment. Some people find that the results from their dermal fillers can last anything from 8 months to a year. However, if you smoke, exercise excessively and expose your skin to too much UV sunlight, you may find that you need to return for treatment sooner than this.

If you would like to make some changes to the way you look and feel in 2022, and are considering dermal fillers for your lips, you couldn’t be in better hands. With her expertise and artistic eye, Dr Anita Dhunna can transform your lips, so that your whole face is rejuvenated and you can step in to the new year, feeling revived and revitalise.
