How dermal fillers can refresh your looks after the school holidays

Now life is beginning to get back to normal, after the holiday season, we might notice that our looks have suffered a little. From UV exposure on that foreign holiday or even with the fabulously hot weather we have experienced this summer in the UK, to the hectic days with the kids, making sure they stay entertained, acting as ‘taxi driver, chef, house keeper, pocket money distributor’ and all the other jobs we do not only during the school holidays, but every day! This hectic time can take its toll on our appearance. As the children don their brand new uniforms and we wave them off at the school gates, perhaps now is the right time for some ‘me time’ when it comes to our looks. From her clinic in South Woodford, Dr Anita Dhunna offers non-surgical treatments which are quick, safe and simply miraculous when it comes to injectable facial rejuvenation.

One of the mainstays of her treatment portfolio and possibly the most versatile injectable treatments she offers is dermal filler facial rejuvenation.

Dermal fillers are famed for their hydrating, lifting, sculpting, smoothing and facial augmenting properties. They are gel-like substances which come in a variety of viscosities and formulations, which means that each product is specifically designed to perform a certain task, when it comes to facial rejuvenation and skin revitalisation. How many treatments can be performed with dermal fillers? The list is literally endless. Dermal fillers which are licensed in the UK contain a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar within the body which is responsible for cushioning and hydrating the tissues. As we age or if we are under stress, if we smoke or sit in the sun excessively, if we exercise vigorously often or are exposed to environmental pollution, our natural HA can deplete. As the HA within our bodies depletes, this can have a detrimental effect on our skin, making it dehydrated, lacking in elasticity, dull and uneven. Facial contours can also suffer, the cheeks can droop, leading to jowls and a weak jawline, hollows can form in the temples and under the eyes, the lips can become thinner – the ways in which our looks can be affected by these changes are depressingly varied. However, fortunately the wonders of temporary dermal fillers in these instances can prevail and help to correct a myriad of facial concerns.

How do I know if I would benefit from dermal fillers with Dr Anita Dhunna?

If you’re looking in the mirror and experiencing one or more of the following skin or facial concerns, a treatment using dermal fillers may just be the solution, after an initial consultation with the doctor, of course:-

• Thinning, dry, dehydrated skin
• Static and deep set lines and wrinkles (lines which can be seen even if the face is not forming an expression)
• Wrinkles caused by sun damage or the natural ageing process
• Hollows such as temple hollowing and loss of volume in the cheeks
• Under eye bags
• A misshapen nose
• A weak jawline
• A weak chin
• Thinning or misshapen lips
• Ageing hands
• A crooked, hooked or misshapen nose

What happens during a dermal filler treatment with Dr Anita Dhunna?

After your preliminary consultation and facial analysis, along with a medical history check, you will be advised by the doctor on which dermal filler treatments would be most beneficial for your individual concerns. Once a dermal filler treatment has been approved, your appointment for treatment will follow. At this appointment, you will be asked to complete some standard consent forms. After this formality, Dr Anita Dhunna will make you feel comfortable and at ease, on the treatment couch. A topical anaesthetic may be applied to the area or areas to be treated. You’ll then need to wait around 30 minutes for this to take its effect. When your skin is suitably anaesthetised, he doctor will commence the treatment. She may use a cannula or a needle to inject specific quantities of the chosen filler, in to those areas that require augmentation or rejuvenation. It’s worth noting that Dr Anita Dhunna only uses FDA approved dermal fillers with a rich history of safety and efficacy, such as the Juvéderm range of dermal fillers, by Allergan. When the treatment is complete, she will advise you on any aftercare which you may need to follow. This can include such things as avoiding rigorous exercise, hot steam or saunas, rubbing or touching the treatment areas, avoiding pain killers such as Ibuprofen and making sure that you do not sleep on the treatment area. Each of these points will need to be adhered to for a specific amount of time, after your treatment.

The results from a dermal filler facial treatment can be seen immediately, but some minor swelling may temporarily and mildly mask the true results, which can usually be seen at around 2 weeks following your treatment. It is at this stage that any swelling or bruising would have disappeared and the product would have integrated fully, with the dermal tissues.

The longevity of your results will be dependent on your individual response to the HA within the product (how fast your body metabolises it), your lifestyle (smoking, excessive exercise and UV exposure can shorten results times) and the product which has been used (a heavier, more viscous product for treatments such as non-surgical rhinoplasty will most likely last longer than a tear trough treatment using a more fluid filler for example). As dermal fillers are temporary in results, you will need more treatments in the future, if you are to maintain the results achieved. With this in mind, and over time, you will start to become aware of how long each treatment lasts and when to book in your next appointment. Some dermal fillers have been known to last up to 24 months, but expect around 6 to 8 months for most results to last.

Dermal fillers can revitalise your looks after a busy few weeks over the summer, but it’s important to choose a fully-qualified medic to undertake your treatment. Dermal fillers need to be injected in to the correct areas of the face, and mistakes made by non-medics can cause untold complications with ongoing effects. Dr Anita Dhunna is one of the UK’s leading experts on injectable treatments, with over a decade of experience in this field.

If you’re looking to refresh your looks, get your skin back to its natural glow or to sculpt one or more of your facial features, dermal fillers could be the answer.
