Lip fillers for the party season

So it’s come around again! The festive party season is upon us. The lights are going up, the nights are drawing in and we are all getting those posh frocks ready for those glittering social engagements, after work drinks and family get togethers we so look forward to. However, when we are thinking about having our regular cosmetic treatments, such as lip fillers, it’s important that we time these treatments just right, so that we don’t end up with unwanted side-effects at those all-important events. Dr Anita Dhunna is a master at natural looking dermal filler lip injections and demand really goes up at this time of year, as everyone wants to look glamorous and sexy, but maybe more importantly, to feel fabulous.

Dermal fillers for the lips are slightly fluid to fairly viscous gel-like substances which contain hyaluronic acid (HA) a powerhouse when it comes to skin hydration and something we lose as we get older. The lips can succumb to the loss of HA and can start to look thin, lined and dehydrated. Injecting dermal fillers in to the lips in specific quantities can help plump the lips to their former youthful glory, reduce lines and wrinkles and can even out any asymmetry. If you are a smoker, have naturally thin lips, would like to balance your top and bottom lip or simply want a little more ‘pout’, then dermal fillers could be for you.

When she administers dermal filler injections into the lips, Dr Anita Dhunna uses either a needle or more commonly nowadays, a cannula (a blunt- ended needle which helps to minimise bruising and swelling). However, as the lips are extremely sensitive and vascular, a degree of swelling and some bruising is always possible, and this can last up to a week or more to fully subside. Although the results can be seen immediately, due to the swelling that can occur and the need for the dermal filler product to integrate with the skin tissues and soften, we usually recommend that a lead time of around 2 weeks is necessary before optimal results are experienced. Therefore, if you have any special engagements or Christmas events in the diary, make sure that you book your treatment well in advance.

It’s also important to take in to account, that if you haven’t had dermal fillers for your lips before with Dr Anita Dhunna, she will request that you attend a no obligation consultation and facial analysis, before having the treatment. At this initial meeting, you can discuss your lip concerns and the results you would like to achieve. Dr Anita Dhunna can also check your medical history and examine your lips, to ensure that a dermal filler lip treatment will be both safe and effective for you. Once you are both satisfied that lip fillers are for you, you can then book in for your treatment.

So, if we consider the consultation, booking your appointment for treatment, potential cosmetic downtime and the potential that a top up treatment might be needed after 2 weeks, you can see that it should be around the middle of November that you should start planning your lip filler treatment in time for your Christmas celebrations.

Remember, the festive season is one of Dr Anita Dhunna’s most busy times, so in order to avoid missing out on those luscious, beautiful lips for Christmas, book your appointment soon!
