Lip fillers – creating the perfect pout

It’s fair to say that we all want to look our very best, and the perfect pout can offer a youthful, fresh and sexy look.

However, as we begin to age, that plump, full lip shape may dwindle, the lips can thin, and lines and wrinkles can appear. This is usually a result of losing certain substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA) from our skin. Environmental factors such as sun exposure and lifestyle choices like smoking can only further exacerbate the issue.

At Dr Anita Dhunna’s many clinics in the south-east, she offers dermal fillers to enhance, augment and re-shape the lips for that perfect pout, a more youthful appearance and a renewed confidence.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable, gel-like substances that contain hyaluronic acid (HA). As HA is a hydrator of the skin, so when it is injected into the dermal and sub-dermal layers, it instantly plumps this area. Over time, HA also gradually re-hydrates the skin for a renewed smoothness and improved volume.

Dermal fillers for the lips are one of the most popular cosmetic injectable treatments as improving the lip area can re-charge the skin and compliment the rest of the facial features.

Won’t dermal fillers give me a trout pout?

Some celebrities and TV stars have fallen foul to silly passing trends or have not been treated by experts in their field, and this is why you might see some people who have had dermal fillers, looking as if they have that ‘fishy mouth’ that we commonly think that this treatment will give us.

It’s actually not the case in most instances, and as Dr Anita Dhunna is a medically-trained professional with years of experience in perfecting the art of dermal filler facial treatments, she will only place as much product as is required to offer you a natural-looking result with no trout pout or fish mouth!

Being a medical professional is a must when it comes to administering dermal fillers but having an artistic eye and a deep understanding of the facial anatomy is also critical and qualities that Dr Anita Dhunna, in her many years in practice, possesses in abundance.

How do I know if I am suitable for lip fillers with Dr Anita Dhunna?

Before any treatment can commence with Dr Anita Dhunna, we will ask that you attend an initial consultation at one of our Harley Street, South Woodford, Brookman’s Park or Bishop Stortford clinics.

This meeting will give you the opportunity to discuss your lip concerns, the results you would like to achieve and to learn about the treatment itself.

Dr Anita Dhunna will also examine your lips and entire facial structure, check your medical history and suggest a treatment plan which would suit not only your unique visage but your lifestyle, fashion choices and how you want to be seen by the world. Once you are both in agreement that dermal fillers will be both suitable and safe for you to undergo, you can go ahead and book your appointment for treatment.

Do lip filler treatments hurt?

As with any injectable procedure, there will always be some kind of a sensation to be felt. However, lip fillers are no longer the painful procedures that they used to be many years ago, with modern techniques using cannulas (blunt-ended needles) as well as vastly improved numbing creams. The expertise of Dr Anita Dhunna herself means that although there may be some slight stinging or tugging sensations during the procedure, this will be minimal and by no means painful.

The FDA approved dermal fillers that Dr Anita Dhunna uses for the lips also contain Lidocaine, an injectable anaesthetic, so minimal sensation will be felt with this treatment.

What happens after the treatment?

Dr Anita Dhunna will give you some aftercare advice so that you can take care of your lips in the days that follow and minimise any swelling or bruising. This advice will include avoiding hot steam rooms, saunas or baths for at least 48 hours after your treatment, avoiding the application of makeup for around 24 hours and to try and avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for up to 24 hours.

As with any injectable treatment, you may experience some swelling and slight bruising, as well as tenderness in the lip area, but this can be minimised by avoiding caffeine and alcohol the night before and after your treatment and taking a natural supplement such as arnica. Good old fashioned ice packs also help and are soothing on the skin; just ensure that they are wrapped in gauze so as not to ice-burn your skin, as you may be numb for an hour or so after your treatment and won’t realise this may be happening. The same goes for drinking hot drinks after your treatment. It’s best to avoid these until your numbing wears off so as not to be scalded.

When will I see the results from my lip filler treatment with Dr Anita Dhunna?

As dermal fillers physically augment the skin tissues and plump out lines and wrinkles, you will see some of your results immediately. However, you will need to give some consideration to the fact that you might be a little swollen and sore after the procedure, and the dermal filler will require a few days to soften and settle.

If you imagine that your final results will be seen a week or two after your dermal filler lip treatment, you can time your procedure to fit in around any special events or nights out that you may have in your calendar.

How long do results for dermal fillers for the lips last?

Expect results to last anything between 6 and 12 months if you take care of your skin, avoid strong sun exposure, do not smoke and are not an excessive gym bunny (in which case, the results might offer less longevity).

Every patient is different in how they respond to HA and how fast their bodies metabolise the product, but Dr Anita Dhunna only chooses FDA-approved dermal fillers, which are famed for their longevity and safety profiles, therefore maximising the longevity of results for all her patients.

Dermal fillers for the lips can rejuvenate your smile and give you a renewed vibrancy, sense of confidence and help you feel more sensual and attractive. With Dr Anita Dhunna’s medical expertise and attention to detail with all her injectable treatments offered, you can be confident in receiving the very best treatment in a safe, discreet and comfortable environment.
