Our lips can be the first feature to show the signs of age. In the winter months we have extra battles to keep our lips looking fresh, vibrant and youthful, such as cold weather and the dehydrating effects of central heating and open fires. If you are noticing that your lips aren’t as full and hydrated as they once were, you might wish to consider a treatment using injectable dermal fillers, something that Dr Anita Dhunna has been expertly administering for many years. From her clinics in Harley Street, South Woodford and Hatfield, she uses FDA approved fillers to re-shape, plump and hydrate the skin, not only during the winter months, but all year round!

How do dermal fillers re-shape the lips?

Dermal fillers are substances which contain hyaluronic acid. This mimics our own stores, which, as we age are depleted. Hyaluronic acid (or HA) helps to hydrate and cushion the skin tissues. The loss of HA means the skin becomes more fragile, lines and wrinkles can appear and in the case of the lips, can thin them, making them look aged. Once a treatment with HA is administered, not only will you see immediate results, due to the gel-like consistency which sits innately within the skin layers to plump out lines, wrinkles and loss of volume in this area but over time, your skin will absorb the water that HA takes on and then slowly releases, resulting in hydrated, beautiful looking lips.

Dr Anita Dhunna can use her invaluable expertise to re-shape the lips in different ways, from injecting product in to the vermillion boarder (the outside edge), the body of the lips or even both. She can correct asymmetry, reduce lines caused by dehydration or lifestyle choices such as smoking, and even the ravages that winter months have on the lips.

Do dermal fillers for the lips, hurt?

The treatment should not be painful and the FDA approved dermal fillers that Dr Anita Dhunna uses contain Lidocaine, an injectable anaesthesia. A topical anaesthetic cream can also be used, up to 30 minutes before your lip treatment, to minimise any initial discomfort caused by the needle or cannula used. In short, there may be some strange sensations felt (tugging, pulling of the skin) but this should by no means be painful.

How long will the results last from a lip filler treatment?

In general, you can expect your lip filler treatment to last anything from 3 to 12 months. Every patient is different and responds uniquely in how they metabolise HA and certain lifestyle choices can influence the longevity of your results. If you maintain a good skincare regime, avoid strong sunlight, don’t exercise excessively and have a healthy diet, the chances are, your results will last longer than someone who smokes, does not protect their skin from the sun, endures excessive or vigorous exercise and perhaps doesn’t eat a healthy diet. The viscosity of the product use and the extent of the treatment also plays a part.

Dermal fillers are the mainstay of any good cosmetic doctor’s portfolio and it’s vital that you choose a medical practitioner for this treatment, as mistakes made by non-medics have proven to be devastating in many cases. Dr Anita Dhunna uses dermal fillers as an integral part of her armoury of injectable treatments and her expertise in this field will mean the very best results for you, at any time of year!
