As the winter months draw in and with Christmas just around the corner, many of us may be reflecting on the past year and might be looking and feeling less than our best . The natural ageing process, the change in temperature, central heating and darker mornings and afternoons in winter can all take their toll, leading to volume loss, sagging skin and weakened facial contours. So, at the close of this year, to improve our looks and begin the new year looking and feeling more youthful, a facial lifting treatment could be something to consider. Invasive surgery may not be something many of us wish for when we think about facial rejuvenation, as the prospect of going under the knife can be a daunting one. The general anaesthetic, the downtime and the cost can be disconcerting. Fortunately, modern aesthetic medicine means that invasive surgery isn’t necessary in many cases, when it comes to improving our looks and many of us turn to injectable treatments, such as wrinkle smoothing injections and dermal fillers
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers consist of a gel like substance and hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar, found in the eyes, connective tissues, joints and the skin. As we age, we lose this vital substance, which in turn can affect the production of collagen and elastin. These three compounds play an important part in maintaining youthful, plump and hydrated skin; so it’s no wonder that when these substances deplete, the skin can become saggy, crêpey and lacking in hydration. Other facial features can suffer from volume loss and deep-set wrinkles and dermal fillers act to lift, plump and add volume to the facial features, as well as intensely hydrating the skin tissues. Dermal fillers should only be administered by a medical professional, for safe and effective results.
Am I suitable for a full face lift using dermal fillers with Dr Anita Dhunna?
If you are of a certain age and feel that you are showing signs of more advanced ageing, such as lower face sagging, volume loss in the cheeks, temples and around the eyes, the formation of jowls and a weak jawline and even puffy eye bags and dark circles, a full face lift using dermal fillers could help to augment and rejuvenate your features. However, before she will agree to treat you with dermal fillers, Dr Anita Dhunna will ask that you attend her South Woodford clinic for a preliminary consultation. At this initial meeting, you will be able to discuss your requirements and the results you are hoping for. Dr Anita Dhunna will also examine your face and devise a bespoke treatment plan for your unique needs. She will also check your medical history, to make sure that you can safely undergo a dermal filler treatment. Once the doctor is happy to proceed with the treatment, you can book your appointment.
When will I see the results of my dermal filler face lift?
Once your treatment has been administered, you will almost immediately see the initial results, as dermal fillers sit innately within the skin tissues mechanically augmenting the facial features. However, there can be a period of cosmetic downtime, following your dermal filler treatment. Slight bruising and swelling may be experienced, which can take anything from a few days to subside. Therefore, we advise that your follow up appointment be arranged for 2 weeks, following your treatment. At this stage, we will be able to see the full results and add any further dermal fillers if required.
How long will my full face lift using dermal fillers, last?
This will all depend on the treatment you undergo as well as your body’s own rate for metabolising HA. If you smoke, sit in the sun, exercise vigorously on a regular basis and undertake other ablative treatments which may compromise the dermal fillers, expect your results to last around 6 to 8 months. However, if you take care of your skin, have a healthy lifestyle and maintain a good skincare regime, results could last anything up to 24 months.
Dermal fillers can offer life-changing results for those of us who want a comprehensive facial augmentation without expensive and invasive surgery. With Dr Anita Dhunna’s expertise and artistic eye, you can regain a more youthful facial appearance and re-build contours which have succumbed to the ageing process.
