During the winter months we can start to feel worn out, sluggish and tired and our skin may be reflecting those feelings. It’s not easy to stay perky and positive when the biting winds hit us and the dehydrating heating systems indoors seem to suck the very life out of our skin. As much as our lifestyle can greatly impact the health of our skin, we can do other things to smooth those fine lines, caused by environmental stresses, to keep our skin looking smooth and youthful, whatever the weather. From her clinics in South Woodford, Hatfield and Harley Street, London, Dr Anita Dhunna has been expertly administering injectable Botox® to keep her patients’ complexions looking youthful and fresh, for many years.

Ok, so Botox® might not hydrate or plump the skin, but it can certainly help you to look and feel better during those bleak winter months, as well as throughout the year. Where dermal fillers utilise hyaluronic acid to add volume to the skin, Botox® uses the powers of neurotoxin, to block the nerve receptors which cause dynamic lines and wrinkles of the skin. Dermal fillers ‘fill’ but Botox® relaxes the facial muscles that cause these lines and can even prevent new wrinkles from forming! Dermal fillers are used to augment the skin tissues, whereas Botox® has a chemical and biological effect on the facial muscles, so they are two very different treatments.

What happens during a Botox® treatment?

Once you have had a consultation with Dr Anita Dhunna and she confirms that Botox® will be beneficial for your dynamic lines, such as forehead lines, glabellar lines (the vertical lines between your eyebrows), crow’s feet and even the lines that can form down the side of your nose, you can book your treatment. The treatment itself is very quick (no longer than 15 minutes to administer) and a tiny needle is used, so no anaesthetic is required, with the exception of particularly squeamish or nervous patients. Once the treatment is complete, you should start to see your expression lines fading within 2 days to a fortnight. After which, you can return to the clinic for any ‘top up’ treatment which may be required. The results can last anything from 3 to 6 months.

Can I combine Botox® with dermal fillers?

Absolutely, and for a fully holistic approach to skin and facial rejuvenation, dermal fillers and Botox® are often used in tandem, as they have very different effects on the skin and facial features. Simply ask Dr Anita Dhunna for a full facial analysis and treatment recommendation, in your initial consultation.
