Lower face lifting with dermal fillers – Dr Anita Dhunna
The ageing process comes to us all over time, and it can be distressing to see one’s face look more and more different in the mirror as time passes. The reduction of fat pads, bone mass, muscle loss and other tissue depletion means that the skin on the lower facial area can start to sag, and jowls can form. The face can take on a squarer appearance, and we can begin to see neck folds and even a double chin.
Fortunately, from her many clinics across London and the southeast, Dr Anita Dhunna can offer lower facial lifting with injectable dermal fillers. Treatment can take just one hour, bringing an instant lift to the lower face and a more youthful, refreshed and natural-looking rejuvenation without a surgical scalpel or general anaesthetic.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are made up of a synthesised composition of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance within the body. Its role is to cushion and hydrate areas such as the joints, connective tissues, eyes, and the skin. When we age, this vital substance depletes, leading to other losses, such as collagen and elastin. Injecting specific areas of the face with dermal fillers can lift and support sagging areas and re-construct facial contours, restore a lift to the lower facial areas and sculpt the jawline. Dermal fillers come in a range of viscosities, and for lower facial restoration, the more viscous and supportive fillers will most likely be used.
Am I suitable for dermal fillers for lower facial lifting with Dr Anita Dhunna?
Most patients over the age of 25 will experience facial ageing in the lower face and would most likely be good candidates for dermal filler rejuvenation. However, before any treatment can commence with Dr Anita Dhunna, we will request that you attend a no-obligation, pre-treatment consultation and facial analysis. Dr Anita Dhunna can assess your facial anatomy and skin quality, as well as and discuss your expectations for results. She will also check your medical history to ensure that you don’t have any medical issues or contraindications, which may prevent or restrict the treatment from going ahead. As long as you are both happy that dermal fillers are a safe and suitable option, you can go ahead and book your appointment for the procedure.
What happens during a dermal filler treatment for the lower face with Dr Anita Dhunna?
When you arrive at one of our clinics in Harley Street, Bishops Stortford, South Woodford or Brookman’s Park, you will be asked to complete some standard consent forms. You’ll then be shown to one of our treatment rooms and asked to relax on the treatment couch. Dr Anita Dhunna will speak with you about the treatment that is going to take place and prepare your skin by cleansing it and applying a topical anaesthetic on the areas to be treated. Dr Anita Dhunna only uses FDA-approved dermal fillers containing Lidocaine (injectable anaesthesia) such as the Juvederm Vycross range, so a topical anaesthetic is not always required.
In many modern procedures using dermal fillers, a cannula will be used. This is a blunt-ended needle that glides through the skin tissues, veins and vessels, is much more comfortable than a traditional needle and minimises the chances of bruising. Dr Anita Dhunna will place specific amounts of the dermal filler into the areas that require treatment and then massage or mould the product into place. Within around an hour or less, the treatment will be complete, and you can return back to your daily activities, adhering to any aftercare advice that the doctor gives you.
When will I see results from my lower face dermal filler treatment?
The amazing thing about dermal fillers is that results can be seen immediately, as the dermal filler physically augments, lifts, plumps and sculpts the skin tissues. You may, however, need to take into account that there may be some slight swelling, mild tenderness and a little bruising following your lower facial treatment, so it’s essential to understand that the full results may not be seen until around two weeks after your initial treatment. At this time, you can return for a follow-up appointment with Dr Anita Dhunna and have any further injections which may be required.
Is there any downtime following a lower face lifting dermal filler treatment with Dr Anita Dhunna?
There is no ‘clinical’ downtime following this treatment (meaning no need to rest or recover at home) and minimal-to-no cosmetic downtime. There may be some very small bruises and some pin-prick marks on the skin for a few hours after the treatment, as well as some swelling and tenderness, but these will subside in a day or so. Heavier bruising can take several days, and it all depends on your individual response to treatment. Making sure you follow these aftercare tips after your lower face lifting dermal filler treatment will help to speed up any cosmetic downtime and will enhance results:-
- Do not rub or touch the area for 24 to 48 hours after the treatment
- Do not lie on the area when you sleep, for three nights after the treatment
- Avoid taking alcohol, caffeine, Aspirin and Ibuprofen the night before and the night after your treatment
- Avoid hot saunas, steam rooms and hot baths for at least 48 hours
- Use arnica gel for any small bruises that might appear
- Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that may overheat the skin for 48 hours
- Avoid makeup for around 24 hours following your treatment
How long can the results from my lower facial lifting dermal filler treatment last?
The longevity of results can vary from patient to patient, and there are certain lifestyle and environmental factors that can extend or minimise the longevity of your own results. For example, smoking, excessive sun exposure, excessive exercise and not drinking enough water can reduce the longevity of results. If you eat a good diet and drink plenty of water, you can maximise your results, and many of our patients report that they enjoy a more youthful, lifted and refreshed appearance for up to 2 years after their treatment.
Time can take its toll on the lower face, but we don’t have to suffer it. With Dr Anita Dhunna at your side and in your corner, you can fight the effects of ageing together and achieve that lower facelift you have been longing for without going under the knife!
